Britney Spears says she will 'never return to the music industry' amid new album rumors
View Date:2024-12-24 04:21:14
Britney Spears fans have long awaited a new music project from the singer, but it will "never" happen, she's revealing.
The 42-year-old singer shared in a lengthy Instagram caption Wednesday that she has no plans for a new album, despite reports that she has been reaching out to others for a project.
"I will never return to the music industry !!! When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people !!!" Spears wrote. "For those of you who have read my book, there's loads that you don't know about me … I've written over 20 songs for other people the past two years !!! I'm a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way !!!"
The pop star's post comes after Rolling Stone reported that her "management and A&R are trying to get her excited for the music," according to sources.
"As of right now, she’s not actively in recording but they’re getting (songs) done to present to her," the sources told the outlet. "The hype around this is that everyone wants her to make music again, but I don’t know if she’s there yet."
Spears' last full-length album, "Glory," was released in 2016. She made a brief return to music in 2022 for Elton John's "Hold Me Closer" and again in July for the will.i.am collaboration "Mind Your Business."
The "... Baby One More Time" singer also slammed reports that her 2023 memoir "The Woman in Me" was released without her permission.

"People are also saying MY BOOK WAS RELEASED WITHOUT MY APPROVAL ILLEGALLY and that’s far from the truth," she wrote in her post Wednesday. "I’m so LOVED and blessed !!!"
In her memoir "The Woman in Me" (Gallery Books, 288 pp., out now), Spears details the unyielding drama in her life through triumphant performances, severe depression, betrayal by family, her agonizing 13-year conservatorship and recent return to the charts.
